FOODITY | Food and nutrition data-driven solutions respectful of citizens' data sovereignty

Meet the FOODITY innovators: MyNutri

Choosing food is no longer just about taste or price — it’s about health, sustainability, and informed decisions. MyNutri, one of the winning projects in our second open call, is tackling this challenge by developing an AI-powered mobile app that helps consumers understand both the personal health impact and the environmental footprint of the products they buy.

MyNutri is an AI-powered mobile application designed to revolutionise the shopping experience by providing personalised health and sustainability insights for food products. By leveraging advanced machine learning models, MyNutri analyses food ingredients and their by-products, delivering two key scores: an individualised health score tailored to the user’s specific health profile and a carbon footprint score assessing the product’s environmental impact.

Unlike traditional food-rating apps that rely solely on ingredient lists, MyNutri incorporates user-specific data such as age, exercise habits, allergies, and metabolic conditions. This ensures that health scores are dynamic and evolve based on new data. Additionally, the app considers hidden by-products like acrylamide — a compound formed during food processing — to provide a more comprehensive health assessment.

On the sustainability side, MyNutri evaluates the carbon footprint of each product based on factors such as agricultural practices, transportation, and production methods. It then suggests lower-impact alternatives, helping users make environmentally responsible choices.

The app is developed with user-centred design principles, incorporating feedback from real consumers through surveys and workshops. Initially, the project will focus on Spanish consumers, before expanding to the UK in later stages. Its backend integrates with Open Food Facts, FOODITY DataU, and Tellspecopedia, ensuring secure data handling and GDPR compliance.

With MyNutri, users can simply snap a photo of a food product and instantly receive insights — making healthier and more sustainable shopping easier than ever.
